NOT cleaned in any way. These coins were produced between 1908 and 1929. In the 1930s America's gold coins were collected by the government to melt down into gold bars.
As a result of that action, investors, collectors, and history buffs now jump quickly when rare Pre-1933 gold coins. An extremely limited number of these coins survived the collection, so each one is a treasure. The coin's design (by Bela Lyon Pratt) marked the first time this type of process was used by the United States Mint. Rather than striking coins to create raised designs, these coins featured stamped designs that were inset within the coins surface. I have no specialist knowledge and do not have the ability to reliably grade this coin. There is surface marking and wear. Please use photos as condition report. The last picture, showing the coin held in a hand, were taken in natural light using no flash. The other photos are in a variety of different lights including flash. This and the other coins listed are from a family collection which ended in around 1980 and they have been in storage for at least 40 years. In some cases much longer. From family history I expect this particular coin to have been put away prior to 1944. I have another Quarter Eagle listed in better condition.
