This 1926 Indian Head quarter eagle is graded and certified MS62 by NGC. This lustrous coin will make a great addition to an Indian head quarter eagle collection.
The obverse features an Indian brave in a war bonnet, with the date, 13 stars and the inscription "LIBERTY" along the upper edge. The reverse features a perched eagle on fasces and an olive branch, the intertwined symbols of preparedness and peace.
Please see images for condition. The Indian Head quarter eagle and the half eagle stand out from all the rest of United States coinage because their designs and lettering are incuse into the coin, versus raised like most coins. The concept of the design was by Boston physician and art lover William Sturgis Bigelow, who happened to be a close friend of Teddy Roosevelt's; and the design was executed by Bostonian sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt.
